Here’s a look at the most talked about Avengers characters on social and online throughout the opening weekend:
- Captain America – 18.7 percent of all online mentions
- Iron Man – 16.7 percent
- The Hulk – 16.2 percent
- Thor – 12.9 percent
- Black Widow – 12.6 percent
- Hawkeye – 8.7 percent
- Nick Fury – 4.0 percent
- Rhodes – 1.2 percent
However, this changes in Europe, where Iron Man was more popular:
- Iron Man – 18.6 percent of all online mentions
- Captain America – 16.0 percent
- The Hulk – 15.1 percent
- Thor – 13.7 percent
- Black Widow – 13.3 percent
- Hawkeye – 8.5 percent
- Nick Fury – 3.9 percent
- Rhodes – 0.6 percent
Among the villains, Quicksilver was the most popular:
- Quicksilver – 40.7 percent of all online mentions
- Vision – 20.7 percent
- Ultron – 15.7 percent
- Scarlet Witch – 13.5 percent
- Loki – 9.1 percent
Most of the buzz happened on social media (91 percent), compared to mainstream media (9 percent). 25.2 percent of all mentions were positive, 8.8 percent of mentions were negative.
Leah Pope, vice president of global marketing at Synthesio, talked about the buzz surrounding the movie:
The newest Avengers film is a true global phenomenon and with our global capabilities to track social and online data we took the opportunity to see what people were saying about the movie. It was interesting to find that while the Iron Man films are responsible for bringing Marvel’s film universe to prominence, it is actually Captain America that lead the charge with the most global, online mentions this past weekend. However, when we only looked at European specific data, Iron Man generated the most buzz. The conversations were also very positive, with only 8.8% of all online mentions being negative.
